Migration flows by country of origin are of growing interest in the Nordic Region due to the recent unprecedented inflows of migrants. There are also interesting differences between the Nordic countries with respect to the dominant countries of origin of migrants and the size of inflows.
Finland had only three annual average inflows of more than 1000 people during the measured period, a distinctively different pattern with respect to numbers when compared to the three other largest Nordic countries, Sweden, Denmark and Norway. Finland’s largest inflows during the 2000’s were from Sweden , an annual average of around 3000 people, followed by inflows from Estonia and Russia (about 2000 each).
