The map shows wind speeds at a height of 80 m, the size of most utility-scale wind turbines. Wind speed is averaged over all days of the year 2000 at surface and sounding stations with 20 or more valid readings showing black dots as the strongest wind classes and light blue as the lowest. Strong potentials (black and red dots) can be seen in the corridor between Denmark and Sweden as well as along the coasts of the Netherlands, Belgium and UK. The map is an adaptation made by Nordregio based entirely on data from the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Stanford University, June 2005.
