Gender imbalance a challenge to rural areas

When young women migrate to the big cities, they leave young men in majority in the smaller towns. This is becoming a real demographic challenge to many Danish municipalities.

Rasmus Ole Rasmussen, Senior Research Fellow at Nordregio, has been interviewed by the Local Government Denmark's (LGDK) newsletter Momentum about the demographic challenge that an increasing amount of Danish municipalities are facing. While the young men stay in their home towns, young women tend to move to the bigger cities, thus leaving the men in a noticeable majority.
