Local and regional approaches to demographic change

In the project, Nordregio studies local and regional level examples on how to work with demographic change. Ten examples from across the Nordic region are studied in order to highlight Nordic experiences on mitigating and adapting to demographic change.

The aim of the project is to contribute to Nordic exchange of experiences and knowledge transfer between local and regional actors. The studied examples include both project-based initiatives and more strategic approaches mainly focusing on the themes of:

  • In-migration, geographic mobility and matching labour demand with supply
  • Promotion of social mobility and inclusion
  • Access to services
  • Regional attractiveness

The main project publications include a Nordregio Working Paper presenting all of the studied examples as well as an online map providing summarised and easily accessible information about the main lessons learned from each of the examples. The project results will also contribute to a policy brief and other dissemination activities.
