In all the city regions international net migration is the main reason for population increase. Domestic net migration increases the total population of Nordic capital and metropolitan labour markets whereas in the other city regions domestic net migration is coming close to a standstill. In the small towns and in the rural areas domestic out-migration is the primary explanation for population decline.
