The Nordic co-operation programme for regional development and planning in 2013-2016 focuses on three main themes: regional sustainable welfare development, sustainable development in the Arctic and green growth. The following collection of Nordregio maps is selected to illustrate these three themes, to describe the regional development trends in the Nordic Countries and to work as a source of inspiration. In addition a forth theme, geographical scope and regional cooperation, is included in order to highlight the different forms of cooperation
Geographical scope and regional cooperation
Operating at the local, regional, national and international levels - Nordregio covers a wide geographic scope with an emphasis on Nordic countries, Europe, the Baltic Sea Region and the Arctic. One of the strategic elements of Nordregio's work is the capacity to compare and analyse different types of regions and geographic levels on a comparative matter. The following map serie is visualizing not only the geographical foci of the Nordregio's work, it is also showing the diverse pattern of growing and shrinking regions on different levels during the last decade.
