This is in order to highlight areas with particular opportunities for contributing to a greener economy through successful territorial development and cohesion policy actions. Therefore a deeper understanding of the sector-specific characteristics and territorial dimension of the green economy is needed to support potential actions, which are supposed to strengthen the economy and competitiveness of the European territory while simultaneously helping to move further towards an environmental sustainable society.
